The idea of holding monthly lunches for retired people was suggested by Martin Gibson, churchwarden of St Mary’s at the time, in 2002 and it caught on very quickly.

The lunches were held either in The Swan at Tockington or the White Hart at Olveston on the first Wednesday in the month, and Robin Bush organised a speaker to add input and interest. Currently we confine the venue to The Swan. We convene at 12.15pm for a drink and Sylvia, stalwart of the Swan, takes our order. Someone from within our own ranks gives a short talk and then lunch is served.

The average attendance is about eighteen people, and it is a pleasant way for all of us to share our attachment to the church.
