Christingle in St Mary’s is renowned as a “free range” service- and 2019 was no exception. Let’s face it, trying to manage 110 children all eagerly awaiting Christmas Day only a few hours away, was never going to be easy.
Steve Oram, accompanied by the excellent Steve Webb on the organ. captivated the congregation with a series of activities including “find the donkey” and “where on earth is the cow?”, prompting children all over the church to search high and low for all the figurines needed to fill the crib.
In a moment of – relative – quiet, the vicar relayed the serious message of Jesus’ birth and its true meaning. Then, at the end, more than 300 enlightened mums, dads, grandparents and children left St Mary’s in a happy place.
