The Parish Council and St Mary’s church have joined with the Methodist church, Tockington Together and Olveston Village Volunteers to coordinate a strategy for this crisis. Please note however, that this is a fluid situation and things may change rapidly, so watch this website daily.

Firstly, a card is ready for printing giving contact details of all the key people and helpers in the parish. This will be delivered to every household – although Old Down has already sent its own notice sheet with names and numbers of local helpers to local residents.

Next, Olveston Stores, telephone 612269, is happy to take orders for groceries and they will deliver – thank you Sarah. This is mainly aimed at those who have to self isolate. Orders can be placed between 10-2pm. Powells butchers, 613003, are re-opening to the public in the mornings and can deliver telephoned orders and the Crusty Loaf, 612455, advises that you should place your orders by phone in advance as they are selling out before noon each day.

St Mary’s church is open all day long from 8:30am to dusk and it is hoped that someone will be present during these hours – but as those of the congregation who are over 70 have been asked to stay away, a daily rota is problematic. Nevertheless, Daily Prayer takes place between 8:30-9:30am. Everyone is welcome and there is no reason why people cannot sit reflectively in church at any time.

There are many volunteers who have signed up to help others with all sorts of tasks – putting bins out, walking your dog, getting medicine etc.

In the short term, if you need help please ring Rev David Moss 415190, Martin Gibson 616856 or Debbie Harries 613273.
