With reference to the article below, a petition opposing the race has been started and is available for inspection/signing in the Village Stores.
On Sunday 1st March 2020, there will be a national cycle race in the Parish.
Some 80 riders will take part over 10 laps, starting at 11am. There will inevitably be disruption in the villages from 11-2pm and probably large crowds.
The race starts outside Marlwood School, progresses down Vattingstone Lane, turns left into Aust Road (heading towards Olveston), through the village and church, onto Tockington and up Old Down Hill to Alveston Road and then back to Marlwood School – 10 times!
There will be accredited marshals and support vehicles. The marshals will have authority to stop traffic and as a matter of interest, cyclists are not bound by speed limits.
The Parish Council, whilst generally supporting the event, have concerns about safety and continue to discuss the event with the organisers.
Further information to follow.
